If you’re looking for a great road trip to take in your Mitsubishi before the summer weather disappears, consider going for a hike at Stone Mountain State Park. The 4.5-mile Stone Mountain Loop Trail is the perfect way to experience all of the most exciting sights in the park.
When you start at the Upper Trailhead on the west side of the park, the first feature you’ll come to is Stone Mountain Falls, a 200-foot waterfall fed from Big Sandy Creek. The beautiful, awe-inspiring falls are a great place for a picnic.
After the mountain, you’ll spend some time making your way up the side of Stone Mountain to the peak. A sign at the top will let you know you’ve reached the summit, which stands at a height of 2,305 feet. You can see for miles from this vantage point, allowing you to enjoy spectacular views of the entire park.
As you continue along the loop trail, you’ll come to the Hutchinson Homestead. This historic spot was the home of a small village in the 1800s. Some of the buildings and furniture have been preserved to give visitors an authentic taste of history. The Hutchinson Homestead also features an old blacksmith shop and a house where corn was dried and stored.
